Great budget gaming laptop with next gen networking
So I was looking for a budget laptop with Wi-Fi 6 and 2.5 Gbps and this fit the bill. It's a really solid laptop, with Windows Hello face recognition, both Thunderbolt and USB-C ports as well. No touchscreen. I've really been enjoying it so far, its a huge upgrade over my previous laptop.
PROS
1. Great networking. I've already gotten 2.35 Gbps bidirectional throughput on the ethernet. (That is about the theoretical max for IP throughput on a 2.5 Gbps port ... same reason you gate 950 Mbps on a gigabit port.)
2. Thunderbolt port works great. NOTE: you can only attach a monitor to the left-side Thunderbolt port, not the right-side USB-C port (same form factor). This is buried in the manual somewhere but had me scratching my head for a bit.
3. Nice crisp display.
4. Fast boot times.
5. Windows Hello is working about 80% of the time, I think unusual lighting throws it off? Not sure I haven't messed with it much.
CONS
1. Keyboard is fine but nothing special. No numeric keypad. (I don't think you ever see this on a 15.6" display FWIW.)
2. There was something screwy in the "burn-in" Windows image the laptop shipped with. I had to reset Windows, and that fixed everything. Probably a good idea to reset Windows on any new laptop of coruse.
3. Laptop was on backorder forever when I bought it -- like a month longer than initially estimated. I know this is a global thing but wanted to be honest here.
Overall VERY solid laptop for the price. I've already recommended it to a coworker.
Cant beat the quality you get for the price you pay. Definitely would recommend this model 10/10. They have many options for payment plans and work with you to help ensure set up is seemless.
